Fast forward 15 years later and now I would LOVE to travel the world. Other than my favorite place, Hawaii, I haven't been to too many exciting places. I was fortunate enough to take two girls trips in the past five years, New York City and Napa/San Francisco. Both trips I was lacking a great camera to capture all my memories.
This past Christmas I was able to visit Hawaii with my brand new Dslr! This trip, like the past 3, I snapped hundreds of photos. The only difference was I was able to capture the true colors of the island. All amateur photographers and tourists know that when you show your friends and family your vacation pictures, the water isn't as blue as it was and the flowers aren't as bright as they were when you were there. Unless you are a professional with professional equipment, you really have to see the colors of the island in person to believe such vibrant colors exist naturally. The first thing I try to describe to people when they ask if Hawaii is beautiful, is the many shades of blue Of the ocean. It's not hard to capture the dark blue shade of the ocean with a point and shoot. To be able to bring back photos that show turquoise and cobalt water flowing onto a beautiful sandy beach is a challenge. Sometimes I'm up for a challenge, and the Christmas trip to Hawaii was my test to see if I could conquer boring photos.
I was successful in my endeavor to bring home the beauty of Hawaii! Im happy to say that tropical flowers, sandy beaches, and stunning ocean views are now a part of my photo albums.
This small victory brings me to the reason for this post. I want to travel and capture the beauty of people, places, and things. Whats the best part of traveling? Engaging in local customs and food. Why not photograph those as well! I've been known to pull out my camera during a meal so I can share with everyone just how yummy my dessert was or how delicious the pasta was at the new restaurant I tried.
My food spectrum still isn't as wide as I would like it to be and the budget is still in the military range, but I am going to start a Photo Bucket List. It's time to experience new foods and put some stamps in my passport. I guess I better get one of those! For now, I will start close, The Golden Gate Bridge. I've seen it many times, driven over it, and even have a few shots with it in the background. Key word - background. I want the bridge to be the entire focus. The weather in Frisco is, at the least, uncooperative! If you're lucky enough to spot the sun, it is usually only a matter of minutes before the clouds cover it up, the fog rolls in, and it's too windy to keep a camera still. My goal is to capture the orange, architectural wonder with the sun shining brightly on it while the hills of San Francisco quietly play the background.
